One of the hottest new bands on the Rockabilly circuit is El Paso's Star Mountain Dreamers. Formed in 2003 by Fred Contreras and Tony Estrada, the Dreamers have been creating a buzz much louder than a lullaby. Expanding on their acclaim and strong performance at the 2005 Oneida Rockabilly Festival, the band has recently been picked up by Rhythm Bomb Records in Germany and has just released their debut CD.
Greetings from El Paso features 12 tracks of originals in traditional rockabilly style. Dreamers front man Estrada's sharp, treble voice leads the sparsely assembled but powerful 50s rockabilly sound. Estrada and Contreras' arrangements are so authentic and evocative that you would think that they were recorded down back in 1957 at Sun.
Blending strong honky-tonk with an infusion of rockabilly riffs, Greetings from El Paso shows all of the talent from this Texas band. Whether it be Moe Lopez's smooth bass beats, the lively guitar Contreras, or the steady rhythm of Danny MagaƱa's drums, it's easy to see that the Star Mountain Dreamer have a tight ensemble deserving of the attention and accolades they receive.
