The Wailin' Elroys hail from Athens, Ohio, and call themselves "a juke joint hillbilly band". It's a good call.
The CD itself is very attractively packaged, with great photos of motel signs throughout. The boys credit their photographer, Sarah Riddlebarger, and they should. She's got a good eye.
The album itself isn't bad, but mixing up the tempos and letting another singer in now and again wouldn't be a bad idea. The first track is a cover of "Twenty Flight Rock". It's funny and lively and very danceable, but not exactly representative of the whole CD. Most of the other tunes fall into the my woman done left me category. A little of that goes a long way on a single CD.
Another good tune one is also a cover—this time of The Ramones' "Havana Affair". It's got a nice punk edge, nothing too hardcore, but it's a good flashback for any 80s babies who miss the sound.
These boys probably put on a great live show, but if you're going to buy this one, mix it up on the changer with a few more discs—you'll want the variety. They do have a nice vibe, and play pretty well. Listen to it and decide for yourself.
