Johnny Cash: The Legend [2 CD]

The most comprehensive Cash collection ever assembled, this career-spanning, 104-track set takes us from his earliest recordings for Sun made 50 years ago all the way up to some of his last recordings from 2002. Seven unreleased tracks and a 60-page book with a new essay by Cash biographer Patrick Carr puts this one in the "collection cornerstone" category.

The four discs are thematically organized, with the first, Win, Place & Show, bringing you one hit after another, including 13 #1 C&W smashes. Familiar titles include "I Walk the Line", "There You Go", "Ring of Fire", "Ballad of a Teenage Queen", "Don’t Take Your Guns to Town", "Understand Your Man", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Daddy Sang Bass", "A Boy Named Sue", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and more.

Disc two, Old Favorites and New, features such Cash staples as "Hey Porter", "Get Rhythm", "Luther Played the Boogie", "Big River", and "The Long Black Veil" as well as newer tracks like Johnny’s cover of Bob Dylan’s "Forever Young". Disc three, The Great American Songbook, offers interpretations of such hallowed tunes as "The Wreck of the Old 97", "In the Jailhouse Now", and an unreleased "I've Been Working on the Railroad".

The last CD, Family and Friends, pairs Johnny with various members of his incredibly talented family—June Carter Cash, Roseanne Cash, Carlene Carter, Mother Maybelle, etc.—and with such stars as Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, the “outlaw” outfit of Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and "Highwayman" Willie Nelson. It ain’t the same without Johnny around, but this’ll help fill the void.

Keep on the Sunnyside

June Carter Cash Keep On the Sunny Side - June Carter Cash: Her Life In Music [2 CD]

Believe it or not, this is the one and only June Carter Cash anthology, and we’re happy to report it’s up to the task of compiling the highlights of 63 years of music history, from June’s 1939 recording of "Keep on the Sunny Side" to tracks from 2002’s Grammy-winning Wildwood Flower. Highlights include her late-40s rendition of "Root, Hog or Die" alongside her mother and two sisters with fresh-faced guitarist (and Mother Maybelle discovery) Chet Atkins accompanying, "Baby, It’s Cold Outside" with Homer & Jethro, and her inaugural solo effort, "Jukebox Blues".

There are also 17 songs written or coauthored by June, including "Ring of Fire" with The Carter Family, and other duets with Johnny Cash including "Jackson", "If I Were a Carpenter", and "Far Side Banks of Jordan"—40 tracks in all! Unseen photos and a new essay by Holly George Warren set the stage for a legendary life.
