Café Chat

April—May of '05

Now in partial-Bi-Monthly version…

By Prof. Horatio P. Horsefeathers

Alrighty Mr. and Mrs. Port Halcyon, here's for yet another entry of the not-quite-monthly newsletter, Café Chat—or, as my associates call it, "stop that writing and paint the doggone garage!"

It's springtime in Port Halcyon, and the warm weather has been greeted by a parade of joyous news. The happy string of events started when local gadabout zootsuitcoot announced his engagement in his own understated fashion when discussing the Art Deco Congress. Not long after the announcement, we heard that SORTEGA76 is not only walking the middle aisle it, but he's also gonna be a father.

And speaking of future parents, guess who's baby-bound? If you haven't read the boards recently, Mr. & Mrs. TMBC are expecting a blessed event, so soon we might witness baby's first post at the café. Congratulations folks!

Of course not everything was about joyous moments. On the 60th anniversary of VE day, Jay's Uncle Bill, who served in the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII, passed away. Along with the notice came a reminder to let the remaining members of the greatest generation know how much we appreciate them. Rest in peace Uncle Bill. Also, sometime in early April, longtime member and hellraiser waynelee bid us farewell. Not in the same way as Uncle Bill, he simply left to take care of the home and family. He has been missed.

Just a paragraph ago, I mentioned the Art Deco Congress held in good ole New York City. Highlights included a private show and a running into a bit of British royalty. No pictures were posted, but according to the reports, tourists treated zootsuitcoot and his wife-to-be like wax figures at Madame Tussaud's.

From across the big drink, we heard that the Café Brit Pack attended the 12th annual Jitterbug Ball in London and judging from the pictures, it seems like Lindy Laura and swingdrummer have been up to something…or so sez The Bubbler.

There were a few chit-chat highlights here and there, most notably the debut of a pinup page (started with the work of the lovely rubyredlocks), a birthday, glimpses of CharlieH.'s faux twin brother, another birthday, tips on how to kill feelings for someone, more birthdays, the conspicuous return of Darth –er- Dr. Swankenstein…and did I mention birthdays?

Perhaps the most eagerly awaited event (as evidenced by the cover stories) is WWII Weekend in Reading, Penna. Preparations have been extensive, from mending and starching to organising der Luftwafflehouse and picking out who gets to dress in which uniform. Hopefully, this none-too-illustrious columnist will be able to write a first hand review of the event next year.

To conclude this season's entry here's the customary newbie revue: pomade_addict, One Eyed Cat, the_librarian, missjoeri, stellasiotra and Action Girl. Welcom kids, enjoy your stay.

'Tis the end of the season's social pages, but don't forget to read the exclusive article on WWII Weekend provided by the local attendees. So, until next month…season… year, whatever remember: The potato farm across the road is owned by Albert Potato.

Quote of the month:

"Took a spill down the outside steps. The cement ones. Spent an evening in the ER, due to fall, answering a lot of pointed questions about whether I 'fell' or if someone 'at home' was hurting me. I said, 'Yeah he's hurting me. He put me on a budget. But he was nowhere to be found when I fell...where's a cop when you need one?'"
